With the spread of COVID-19 and homes and businesses closing their doors, these truly are unprecedented times. Now more than ever, many are concerned about the spread of the coronavirus and the health and safety of themselves and their loved ones.
There currently isn’t a vaccine for COVID-19. Those most at risk for developing complications related to the illness are older adults or individuals with underlying medical conditions. However, people of all ages across the globe have been affected.
Something important to remember is that some carriers of COVID-19 may not experience severe symptoms at all, but can still spread the illness to others—particularly through close contact or respiratory droplets when coughing or sneezing.
Help Prevent The Spread Of Coronavirus
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention emphasizes that the best way to prevent illness is by avoiding exposure to the virus. It’s vital to take every precaution to protect not only yourself but others around you.
CDC recommendations include washing your hands frequently throughout the day with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds. It’s especially important to do so after having been in a public place, coughing or sneezing, or using the restroom. If soap and water aren’t available, hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol is also effective.
Additionally, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, nose, and face. Avoid close contact with people who are sick and keep a distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others.
Frequent Disinfecting Is Crucial
Individuals, families, and business have been advised to practice social distancing—meaning more time spent at home and not going to public places except the grocery store or pharmacy if absolutely necessary.
More time is clearly being spent at home, so the CDC also recommends frequently disinfecting surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, cell phones, keyboards, countertops, faucets, toilets, and more.
