Keeping carpets free of stains is challenging to say the least. If tough stains like paint, blood, or pet urine have found their way onto your floors, don’t worry! Chem-Dry can help remove them for good with professional carpet cleaning in Oahu, Hawaii.
And for reference between our visits, here are tips for treating some of the toughest carpet stains.
#1 – Blood
Act fast by using cold water to rinse as much of the stain as possible. Then combine 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid with cold water in a spray bottle to treat the stain. Oxi-clean is also effective at removing blood stains.
#2 – Ink
Use isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth to gently blot away the stain. Nail polish remover may also be effective. Always test a small section of carpet first, and finish by rinsing and vacuuming the spot.
#3 – Pet Urine And Stains
Pick up solid messes and gently blot away the remaining moisture first. Try not to scrub too hard or smear the stain. You can also try using a store-bought carpet cleaning solution that contains ammonia and is safe for pets, or a solution made of vinegar and warm water followed by baking soda sprinkled over the spot.
Also, keep in mind that a professional pet urine removal treatment is needed at least once each year.
#4 – Water Soluble Stains
For things like wine, chocolate, or vomit, use a solution of 1 cup water for every 1 tablespoon of ammonia, or 5 parts water with 1 part chlorine bleach. Test a small area of your carpet first, and use only soap and water on wool carpet.
#5 – Wax, Oil, Fat, Or Gum
Place ice over gum or wax until it freezes, then chip it away using a blunt knife and vacuum to finish. For oil, fat or wax, place a paper towel over the area then iron over it so the stain sticks to the towel.
#6 – Glue
Gently dab rubbing alcohol on the stain using a cotton ball to wet the stain, then wipe it away using a soft cloth.
#7 – Coffee
Absorb as much of the stain as you can with a towel, then use a solution of 1 ¼ cups water and ¼ cup of bleach. Rinse the area well when finished.
#8 – Latex Paint Or Washable Ink
Use a solution made of ¼ teaspoon vinegar in 32 ounces of water. Apply the solution and repeat as needed until the stain is gone.
#9 – Alcoholic Drinks, Cola, Dyes, And Food
Make your own cleaning solution using white vinegar and warm water, or try a store-bought cleaner like Oxi-clean.
